Car rental prices are not a single number but a total that changes with the season, the duration, the category and what the offer includes. In Thessaloniki and Halkidiki the gap between a weekday in October and an August weekend can be large. We do not quote "average prices", because they change by store and by date. We explain what sets the amount so you can compare what you see correctly.

Season and demand

July and August are the months with the highest demand in Halkidiki, and summer weekends fill up first. In Thessaloniki demand also rises on public holidays, during trade fairs and in periods with many flights. In the months around summer prices usually ease, but that does not hold for every store.

Some stores adjust the price to how full their fleet is. In that case the same category can cost a different amount on two different dates. So always compare using your exact dates and times, and not a price you saw for another period.

Duration: one day, a weekend or a week

Many stores price per 24 hours from the pick-up time. If you return the vehicle later than the agreed time, you may be charged extra hours or even a whole day, depending on the terms. Ask whether there is a grace period and how a delay is calculated.

On longer rentals the daily price is often lower, but not always. If your trip is six days, look at the price for seven too. Sometimes the weekly package costs the same or less, and you simply have the vehicle one day longer.

Category, gearbox and fuel

Small city cars usually have the lowest price, as long as they fit your passengers and luggage. In Halkidiki, with umbrellas, a cooler and children, a slightly larger car often makes getting around more comfortable and saves you from making two trips.

Automatic cars often cost more than manual ones, and diesel or hybrid cars can save fuel over long distances. If you mostly drive in the city on short trips, the saving in consumption probably does not offset a more expensive model.

What is included in the price

Third-party liability insurance must be included in the rental. Optional cover, such as damage to the rental vehicle, theft or legal assistance, differs by store. Read which damage is covered and which is not, because that is where the most common differences between two offers lie.

Also check the included kilometres, roadside assistance and whether a second driver is charged. In Halkidiki the kilometres add up quickly, especially if you move between peninsulas, and a daily mileage limit can matter more than the price itself.

Deposit and damage waiver

The deposit is not a rental cost. It is an amount held or withheld as security and released after the return if there is no damage or debt. Check how much it is, how it is collected and when it is returned, because it can block a significant part of your card limit.

The damage waiver limits what you pay if the vehicle is hit, but there is usually an excess. Ask how much it is, whether extra cover reduces it and what that costs. Often the cheapest daily price comes with a higher excess.

Extras that raise the total

A child seat, GPS, a second driver, out-of-hours pick-up or return, delivery to a hotel and returning to a different location may each carry a separate charge. A young-driver charge, or a charge for drivers with few years of licence, applies at some stores.

Also look at the fuel policy. If you must return the car with a full tank, leave time to refuel before handing it back. When the store refuels the car, the fuel price is usually higher than at a petrol station.

How to compare two offers

Put the same items side by side: total for your dates, included kilometres, damage waiver and excess, deposit, fuel policy, pick-up point and terms for changes or cancellation. When one of them is missing, the comparison is not fair.

On Ridom you see the total booking amount, the advance you pay online and the balance you pay at the store. The advance is included in the total and is not added to it. Read the store terms before you complete the booking.

Frequently asked questions

Is renting outside July and August cheaper?

Often yes, because demand is lower, but it does not hold for every store or every date. Compare your exact dates.

Which category is usually the cheapest?

Small city cars usually have the lowest daily price. They need to fit passengers and luggage, otherwise a larger vehicle turns out more convenient.

Is the deposit part of the price?

No. It is an amount held or withheld as security and released after the return if there is no damage or debt. Its amount is stated in the terms.

Do I pay the whole amount online?

On Ridom you pay the advance online and the balance at the store, by the methods and terms that have been disclosed. The advance is included in the total amount.

Why do two stores have different prices for the same model?

The terms differ: kilometres, insurance, deposit, fuel policy, pick-up point and the age of the vehicle. Compare the same items in both offers.
